Recessed lighting — also called can lights or pot lights — is one of the most requested lighting upgrades in Charlotte homes. When done right, it transforms a room from dated to contemporary without major construction. What's involved depends heavily on whether you have attic access above the ceiling.

Two Types of Recessed Lighting Jobs

LED retrofit (easiest). If you already have recessed cans installed, LED retrofit kits screw directly into existing fixtures. No new wiring, no drywall cutting. One can takes about 10 minutes. Entire kitchens get updated in an afternoon.

New recessed light installation. If there are no existing cans, installation requires cutting holes, fishing wire through the ceiling, and connecting to existing electrical. This is where the job complexity varies:

What to Expect from Recessed Light Installation
