For most people, it isn't — especially when existing wiring is old, compatibility isn't obvious, or wall plates don't match.

Smart Thermostats

Nest, Ecobee, Honeywell Home: Smart thermostat installation involves more than swapping the device. Compatibility with your HVAC system matters — some systems (especially older heat pump systems) don't have the C-wire (common wire) that most smart thermostats require.

We check compatibility before installation. If a C-wire adapter is needed, we install it. Most standard smart thermostat installations: $79–$119.

What to tell us when booking: Your current thermostat brand, the number of wires connected to it (peek behind the old thermostat and count), and whether your system is heat pump, gas, or electric.

Video Doorbells

Ring, Nest Doorbell, Eufy: Wired video doorbells replace your existing doorbell and use the existing low-voltage wiring for power. Wireless versions use battery power but still need physical mounting.

Wired doorbell installation: $69–$99. Old doorbell removed, new video doorbell mounted and wired, app configured.

Wireless (battery) doorbell installation: $49–$69. Mounting bracket installed, unit mounted, app set up.

Doorbell transformer upgrade: Some older Charlotte homes have doorbell transformers that don't provide enough power for video doorbells. Transformer upgrade adds $49–$79 to the job.

Smart Locks

Schlage Encode, August, Yale, Kwikset Halo: Smart lock installation requires removing the existing deadbolt and installing the smart lock correctly aligned so the bolt extends and retracts smoothly.

Smart deadbolt installation: $79–$109 per lock. Includes alignment check, app setup, and code programming.

Note on door prep: Smart locks require properly aligned door and strike plate for smooth operation. If your door has alignment issues (sticking, hard to lock), address those first — smart locks amplify misalignment problems.

Smart Lighting

Lutron Caseta, Leviton Decora, TP-Link Kasa switches: Smart switches replace existing light switches and require a neutral wire for most brands. Many Charlotte homes built before 1990 don't have neutral wires in switch boxes.

Smart switch installation (neutral wire present): $69–$99 per switch.

Neutral wire check: We verify neutral wire availability before installing smart switches. If no neutral wire exists, we recommend Lutron Caseta (which doesn't require one) or Philips Hue (bulb-based system with no switch wiring needed).
